Ingredients

For the mix
  • 1.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
  • 0.75 tsp kosher salt
For the serving
  • 16 cup water for serving

Method

Mix the cocoa
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, dry milk powder, and salt until evenly combined, breaking up any lumps.
  2. Transfer the mix to an airtight container.
  3. Store at room temperature.
Prepare a serving
  1. For each serving, bring 1 cup of the water to a boil.
  2. Whisk 1/3 cup cocoa mix into the boiling water until dissolved.
  3. Serve hot.

Notes

Break up any cocoa lumps before storing for a smoother mix. Store the dry mix airtight at room temperature; prepared cocoa keeps refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be frozen, though freezing is unnecessary. For a dairy-free version, replace the nonfat dry milk powder with a suitable powdered dairy-free milk alternative.
